Call For Papers

The 66th Eastern Snow Conference (ESC) will be held in Niagara on the Lake, Ontario, Canada, 9-11 June 2009.

The scientific program is open to sessions on theoretical, experimental, and operational studies of snow, ice, and winter hydrology.

This year’s general theme is
The changing cryosphere: tracking and understanding changes in snow and ice
A special poster session entitled Observing, Monitoring and Modeling Snow and Ice is also planned. Student paper awards are available.

Email submissions are encouraged

All papers will be published in the ESC Proceedings. In addition, Hydrological Processes (HP) will publish refereed papers from the meeting. The subject matter of these papers must fit within the scope
of the journal. If you would like your paper to be considered for journal publication, please indicate this on your abstract and submit an electronic copy of your paper to (ESC/HP editor) by 19 June 2009. For more information contact the ESC/HP editor, John Pomeroy or co-editor, Andrew Klein.

Students are encouraged to enter the ESC Student Paper Competitions. The winner of the best submitted student paper will receive the Wiesnet Medal, a $750 prize. The Campbell Scientific Canada Award of $500 will be awarded to the submitted paper demonstrating the most innovative use of technology in the
gathering of data.

To be considered for the Wiesnet and Campbell awards please send an electronic copy of the paper with the supervisor's endorsement to the Chair of the Research Committee, Baker Perry, no later than 30 April, 2009. In addition, the David Hewitt Miller Student Poster Award of $100 will be awarded to the best student poster. Please consult the ESC web site for conditions and details.

Information on the Conference Venue

This year's Eastern Snow Conference will be at the White Oaks Hotel and Conference Centre at Niagara on the Lake, Ontario. (www.whiteoaksresort.com).

The reservation system is now available at White Oaks Conference Centre. Please go ahead and reserve your accommodation using the online method if possible following the posted instructions.

The quoted rates are inclusive of tax and include the facility fee to use several of the conference facilities (e.g. swimming pool etc). Together with the registration fee, all food and conference materials are covered including the banquet and a special event before the banquet that we are planning.

The the room rates are:
Single Occupancy: $190
Double Occupancy: $240 ($120 per person per night)
Triple Occupancy: $240 ($80 per person per night)

Please note. for the double/triple occupancy rates, the room must be filled otherwise the occupancy rate will be charged at the single/double rate. Also, for accompanying spouses, they should use the multiple occupancy rules (i.e. a double occupancy room rate for an accompanying spouse)
