Announcement and Call for PapersThe 60th Eastern Snow Conference (ESC) will be held in Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada, 4-6 June 2003. The scientific program is open to sessions on theoretical, experimental, and operational studies of snow, ice, and winter hydrology. All papers will be published in the ESC Proceedings. In addition, Hydrological Processes (HP) will publish refereed papers from the meeting. The subject matter of these papers must fit within the scope of the journal. If you would like your paper to be considered for journal publication, please indicate this on your abstract and submit four copies of your paper to (ESC/HP editor) by 1 April 2003. 60th Annual ESC Registration DetailsVenueThe 60th Annual ESC meeting will take place at L'Universite de Sherbrooke, in the eastern townships of Quebec. All events take place in the Cultural Centre. - Adobe Acrobat Document RegistrationThe registration desk will open on Wednesday evening, June 4, 2003 at 7pm in the Cultural Centre (Building B3), Université de Sherbrooke (see map below). Parking is available in front of the building. Enter through the main doors, and turn right to find the registration desk. The evening registration will be held in conjunction with an Icebreaker Reception. The registration desk will also be open at 7:30am Thursday June 5, before the morning session commences. Student Paper CompetitonThe Eastern Snow Conference (ESC) announces two annual awards for student research related to snow and ice. The Wiesnet medal, $250.00 (Canadian) and travel expenses up to $500.00 (Canadian) are awarded to the paper judged best overall. The winning paper is presented orally at the annual meeting of the Eastern Snow Conference and will be published in the annual Proceedings. The first and second runners-up to the Wiesnet medal will receive a one-year free membership in the Eastern Snow Conference. The Campbell Scientific Award consists of $500.00 (Canadian) and will be awarded by the Research Committee to the paper demonstrating innovative technical expertise in data collection resulting in a superior oral or poster paper. The award winners will be notified prior to the annual meeting, but the actual awards will be presented at the Conference Banquet. All papers presented at the Eastern Snow Conference may choose to submit the paper for peer review and publication in the journal Hydrological Processes. Subject to the conditions listed below, all student entries are eligible for these awards. Entries should be sent to the Chair of the Research Committee, Eastern Snow Conference. Conditions 4. To be considered for the student paper award, four copies of the paper with the supervisor's endorsement must reach the Chair of the Research Committee, Chris Derksen, postmarked no later than 30 April, 2003.

Take highway I-93, direction North, to the junction with highway
I-91, near St. Johnsbury (Vermont). Once on highway I-91, head North until
the border crossing at Derby Line. Continue on autoroute 55 direction North
until you reach autoroute 10. Take autoroute 10 direction East until the end
of the autoroute 10; then stay on autoroute 10-55. Take exit140, in the direction
of autoroute 410. AT the end of highway 410, turn left at the traffic lights
on boulevard de l'Université. At the second traffic lights, turn right
(route 216 in the direction of Sainte-Catherine de Hatley Take the first right
to enter the campus.
Parking fees are covered by the ESC if you park in the lot in front of the
Cultural Centre. You must go to the registration table at the entrance of
the Cultural Centre to get your parking permit for the Conference. Do not
park in green spaces since they are reserved for special permit holders between
8h30 and 17h30.

The Limocar bus company (http://www.limocar.ca) operates the bus service between Montreal and Sherbrooke. You can call the bus terminal in Sherbrooke for information at (819) 569-3656 or the Berri Terminal in Montreal at (514) 842-2281 for bus schedules. From Montreal, there are express busses leaving the Berri bus terminal at 6h30, 9h00, 11h00, 13h00, 16h00, 18h00, 20h00 and 23h30. The travel time is approximately 2 hours. The bus arrives at the Sherbrooke bus terminal (downtown) where you will have to take a taxi to your hotel or the University. A number of buses stop at the University on their way to the downtown bus terminal. You should enquire at the Limocar bus company or the bus terminal for more information.
